Summer Term (2) 2009

Our busy term draws to a close we celebrate just how much we have achieved.

We had a fantastic trip to Bristol Zoo in June.  The weather was lovely, we thoroughly enjoyed our workshops about  Africa and The Rainforest and the children were beautifully behaved.  We are very proud of them for representing Llangrove CE Primary School so well.  The trip to the zoo was followed up with a creative curriculum ACORN day in school, when children continued the Rainforest and Africa theme, creating some lovely work in the process.

WILLOW CLASS

We have been very acting out a variety of different role plays in and out of the classroom: a space rocket, a train, an aeroplane, the seaside and camping in the Gruffalo forest.  We are now performing our own Punch and Judy show, linking to our History theme of seaside holidays, then and now.  We have also enjoyed a Teddy Bears’ picnic, eating the Gruffalo cake that we made.

BEECH CLASS

Beech class have been learning all about Weather and our local natural environment this term.  Our school grounds and English summer weather have given us lots of opportunities for discussion and investigation. We have also been investigating what plants need to grow well.  As a result, our runner beans are now growing well in the  school garden.

OAK CLASS

It’s been a really busy term in Class 3.   The Y6 pupils have been out and about having taster days at their new secondary schools and their feedback comments have been very positive, including  many comments about the size of the cookies at John Kyrle - very important of course!  On Monday 3rd July, Y6 attended a lovely Leavers’ Service at Hereford Cathedral and have also been very  busy preparing for their own  Leavers’ Service in school.  Y6 are also anticipating their residential trip to Red Ridge for three days in the final week of term. Look out for topic books which will be sent home next week as well as our Art folders for the term in which there are many examples of excellent work around the topic ‘People in Action’.  We  would like to wish all Y6 children well in their new schools.

 SPORT

There have been many significant achievements in sport this term.  Sports Day was a great success and we would like to thank parents, relatives and friends for supporting this event (and also those parents who took part in races!).  Well done to Garron, who were the overall winners.  Our football team played a fantastic final at Gorsley Goffs in June, where although they were defeated 2-0, they became runners-up of Ross and District after playing against 13 schools in the district.  On Wednesday 1st July several children from Years 3-6 took part in the Ross and District School Sports Day at Ashfield Park, along with 11 other schools.  We were particularly pleased with the great teamwork shown by everyone.  Special praise goes to Jonathan Evans, Andrew Evans, Marc Morgan and Nathan Brooks for their great race results.

ECO SCHOOLS

The Eco-schools warriors and Eco-club have had a busy summer term planting, weeding and watering. They are now enjoying the rewards of their labour – they have grown approximately 3kg of potatoes (from just 4 tubers) for the Potato Council’s Potatoes for Schools Competition – and this week we have all enjoyed tasting the peas grown in the new raised vegetable bed.

We were very lucky that the sun shone on the day of the Summer Fair.  An incredible amount of hard work went into organising and running this event - thank you to all parents, children and staff for all of their help in making this event such a success.  We made £1,000, which was a fantastic achievement.  Well done to you all!

I would like to thank all parents, pupils, staff and Governors for their continued hard work in supporting the school.   We hope you all have a safe and happy holiday and look forward to seeing you all next term.
